Let's get something straight right here and right now. If you ever encounter an author who writes things and then hides them under her bed while she is alive, chances are she won't be discovered until she has passed on. This would imply that you are not really writing an article but are instead writing a diary. Yet... in order to write like say "something like this" on newsvine, you have to find the menuitem call "publish" and then click on the item labeled "Write Article". it doesn't say "make an entry to your diary".
Assuming you are actually writing an article and not a diary, it is because you want others to read it. You don't want others to read your diary - unless you ae maybe a little kinky. Now you will have to excuse my ignorance but if you want others to read what you wrote, two things have to happen;
1. the article must be published - meaning made available to outside-of-you access to others
2. the others must be able to find it
Clue me in. If you don'f provide a link to your published article, i suppose you could hope that people in the dark just trip over it accidentally. Keep in mind that your article is food for the mind. But tripping over things acccidentally is not how i buy food to eat. you? thought not.
The declaration by newsvine that "Self-promotion, seeding links to your own site(s), and advertising are not allowed." What this means to me is that i can intend to write and article and publish it but have to treat it like a diary item. From my point of view, that is either 2-faced or i need glasses for seeing double. Notice where it says "Newsvine's primary purpose is to provide a place for people to share and discuss topics relating to the news.". How about "Newsvine's primary purpose is to provide a place for people to share and discuss topics relating to the news that one may accidentally trip across.". Really. Whenever i see contradictory stuff like that, i believe that the lawyers got ahold of the business and decided to take the reins. Happens every time. When the lawyers got ahold of wallstreet bank, all kinds of shit went wrong. Lawyers do not make good relationships, they make demands.
It's actually comical. I know of a business that was "acquired" from a business person who interfaced with people on a real level. It was acquired by a lawyer/group. Their terms of service expanded from 1 page to hundreds of pages in a couple years. It grows monthly. Lawyers have it in their heads that they know better than everyone else. Just look at congress. It's a bullpen full of bull what? right.
But i get it. This is the cattle corale that you are supposed to feed someones for free who then are in a position to pick and choose who sees what when. I get it. You always wanted to be a writer and work for less than minimum wage.
HOW CLEVER.
